What Is SCENAR Therapy?
SCENAR therapy is a form of non-invasive electrical neurostimulation delivered through a handheld device placed on the skin.
During treatment, the device sends brief, computer-modulated electrical impulses through the skin. The practitioner adjusts the treatment according to the person’s response and the area being treated.
The sensation is usually experienced as tingling, tapping or gentle prickling. The intensity is adjusted throughout the session so that treatment remains tolerable.
An Interactive Form of Treatment
SCENAR differs from some forms of fixed electrical stimulation because the device measures changes in skin response while it is being used.
This feedback helps the practitioner decide where and how long to treat. It does not diagnose illness or replace medical assessment.
Treatment is individual. Two people with similar symptoms may respond differently and may require different treatment approaches.
What May SCENAR Therapy Be Used For?
At BackBodyBreath, SCENAR therapy is used as a supportive, non-invasive approach for the management of pain and muscular tension, within the intended use of the device.
It may be incorporated alongside breathing retraining, gentle movement and other appropriate healthcare.
Results vary between individuals. SCENAR therapy is not presented as a cure, and it does not replace medical investigation or treatment where these are required.
What Happens During a Session?
The device is applied directly to the skin over selected areas of the body.
Treatment may involve:
working locally around an area of discomfort
exploring related areas of muscular tension
observing differences in skin response
adjusting the intensity and treatment time according to your response
You remain awake and able to provide feedback throughout the session.
A Note About the History of SCENAR
SCENAR technology was developed in the former Soviet Union during the later twentieth century as a portable form of electrical neurostimulation.
Its historical origins are interesting, but they do not determine whether the treatment is suitable for an individual. Treatment decisions should be based on current clinical circumstances, the intended use of the device and realistic expectations.
Is SCENAR Suitable for Everyone?
SCENAR therapy may not be appropriate in every circumstance.
Before treatment, you will be asked about relevant medical conditions, implanted electrical devices, pregnancy, medications and the reason you are seeking care.
Where symptoms require medical assessment, you may be advised to consult your doctor or another appropriate health professional before proceeding.
